Valery Katkalo

Valery received undergraduate and Doctoral degrees in Economics from St. Petersburg State University, and completed a post-doctoral program at Haas School of Business, University of California (Berkeley).

He has been a visiting scholar at several European business schools and has completed management development programs at Procter & Gamble and ABB.

Valery was one of the founders (1993) and Dean (1997-2007) of the School of Management and, since 2007, has been Dean, Graduate School of Management, SPbSU. Under his leadership, GSOM has become the Russian member of CEMS and PIM (global alliances of the world’s top business schools), received the international accreditations AMBA and EPAS, and is now the most internationally recognised Russian business school.

Valery has taught at business schools in USA, France and Finland. He has over 100 research publications (including 6 books and several articles in top international journals) and is Chief Editor of the Russian Management Journal.

He is member of the EFMD Board of Trustees, CEMS Strategic Board, EPAS Accreditation Committee and of several Boards for Russian and international Universities, business schools and companies.

Valery has consulted extensively on creating and developing business schools in Russia, Ukraine, Hungary, and Bosnia.

He has several state medals and other awards.
