Martin Pilgrim began his working life as a local government accountant but for most of his 39-year career worked for bodies representing local government on a wide range of policy issues. His last job before retirement was Chief Executive of London Councils, the body which brings together London’s local authorities. Martin is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and has a Master’s degree in management from the University of Kent.
Since his retirement, Martin has had a number of different roles in the not-for-profit sector. He was a director of Film London, the strategic film and media agency, from 2005 to 2011. At The Prince’s Trust, he has been Chair of the London Regional Council since 2007 and Chair of the England Council since 2009; he was a Trustee of The Trust in 2009-2010 and has been a member of the National Advisory Board since 2010. Martin served as a Trustee of the Daycare Trust from 2007 to 2012, when it merged with the Family and Parenting Institute to form the Family and Childcare Trust, where he is a Trustee. Martin has chaired the London Sustainability Exchange since 2007. He is a board member at the Family Rights Group. Martin is also a Trustee of Platform 51 (previously known as the YWCA).
